AmeriCorps Cape Cod Program Structure
An AmeriCorps Cape Cod Member’s week is divided up into three project focuses. These focuses give the program it's structure and
determine in what manner projects are completed. The descriptions below detail our program’s structure.
Group ProjectsAmeriCorps Cape Cod Members serve together in groups, ranging in size from 2 – 26, on the Monday and Friday of each week. These projects are usually more labor-intensive - mass shellfish deployment, shellfish gear construction, bench construction for an open space parcel, and trail construction and maintenance. The length of these projects and the number of members needed to complete them can vary greatly; a project might last one day and employ 26 members as opposed to another project which may take several days over two months with 4 members.
Individual PlacementsIndividual placements occur on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday of each week. Each member will have one individual placement for two days a week or two individual placements each for one day. Placements involve a member serving on a specific, longer term project with a partnering organization or department. Placements last for several months or for the entire Corps year depending on the project and the needs of the organization.
Community Outreach and Development (COD) Day
COD Day is the Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday a member is not serving with an individual placement. The day is based out of the AmeriCorps Cape Cod office and is an opportunity for members to focus on Community Education and Outreach. Most of our environmental and disaster education programming is taken out into the community on COD Day. Programs are given in school classrooms, at senior centers, and in other community venues. Members also give presentations to community officials informing them of our services and accomplishments. COD Day is used to plan volunteer events, large and small. We hold several annual volunteer events each year to engage the citizens of Cape Cod. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of service and Canal Clean Up are two of our large annual volunteer events.
